Reducing Waste on New Year’s Eve
Happy New Year’s Eve! The WWRA will be closed New Year’s Day. Wednesday’s curbside pickup will be moved to Thursday, January 2nd, and Thursday’s curbside pickup will be moved to Friday, January 3rd.
Ring in the New Year right by reducing waste! Let’s count down to 2025 with these New Year’s waste reduction tips:
FIVE: Avoid purchasing year specific balloons, glasses, streamers, and other decor. These items are NOT recyclable and can only be used once. Instead, look for decor without years and DIY! Try making recyclable paper streamers or frost a cake for everyone to enjoy.
FOUR: Provide a recycling bin for guests at your celebrations. The easiest way to encourage recycling is to make it just as accessible as the trash can. Place a recycling bin in a visible space next to the trash and include this printable flyer to ensure your guests know what is accepted
THREE: Use reusable dinnerware and napkins. Disposable plates, silverware, napkins, and paper towels are NOT recyclable. Instead, serve food on reusable dinnerware and focus on finger foods to reduce dishes.
TWO: Recycle pop cans, clean solo cups, and glass bottles. Clear and colored glass can only be accepted at WWRA drop off locations in designated and marked bins. Please remove all corks, labels, and lids before recycling.
ONE: Start a sustainable habit as a New Year’s resolution! Do you want to buy more recycled products? Do you want to purchase only secondhand clothing? Do you want to get involved in local advocacy? Visit the links below for more New Year’s Resolution ideas!
