Christmas Lights are NOT Recyclable

Do you know how to dispose of Christmas lights? Christmas lights are NOT recyclable because they are tanglers! Tanglers, such as chains, rope, plastic bags, bagged recyclables, thin plastics, and Christmas lights tangle in our recycling machines and cost time and money. When getting rid of Christmas lights, remember the following:

- One bad bulb can ruin a string! Invest in an incandescent light tester and repair kit. These allow you to see which bulb is out and prevent that string from going to the landfill!
- If your lights are working, donate them to a local thrift store, sell them on Facebook Marketplace, or give them away on Chelsea Connection or Buy Nothing Group.
- If your lights are broken, please bring them to Recycle Ann Arbor's drop-off centers
