What to do with Nonrecyclable Items

What should you do with nonrecyclable items? Many items that cannot be recycled at the WWRA may have another useful life, and others need to be disposed of properly. No matter what, DO NOT dump nonrecyclables at WWRA locations. Instead, here are some options for proper reuse or disposal:

For items in good condition:
Kiwanis Thrift Sale (Ann Arbor)
– Facebook marketplace
– Community Facebook groups like No Buy and The Chelsea Connection
Michigan Foster Care Closet – gently used clothing
SCRAP Box A2 – a not-for-profit organization that is a creative resource/recycling use center for safe and clean discards from factories, businesses, and households

For Items that are truly disposable:
City of Chelsea Solid Waste Transfer Station (they may be next to the WWRA, but they are NOT the WWRA)
Liberty Landfill – They accept many items including Construction and Demolition debris; E-waste (cell phones, computers, etc)
Washtenaw County Home Toxics accepts over 50 kinds of things, including pesticides, paint thinners, game consoles, fluorescent light tubes and bulbs, alkaline household batteries, aerosols…and much more.

For Batteries:
– WWRA designated drop off on Werkner road for car and truck batteries
– Rechargeable batteries: Batteries Plus, Lowe’s
– Alkaline: Washtenaw County Toxics (they also take many other items, too)
