Zero Waste Picnic Tips
It’s International Picnic Day! Embrace the heat and get outside with these low waste picnic ideas:
– Bring your favorite China or plates! It may be easy to reach for disposables when packing up your meal, but remember, disposable dinnerware like paper plates and plastic flatware are NOT recyclable.
– Look for a secondhand picnic basket kit! Many thrift stores have picnic baskets for sale, and some even come with full sets of plates, silverware, and glasses. If you don’t have a picnic basket, transport your picnic goodies in a wagon!
– Avoid packing foods in plastic bags. Thin plastics like ziplocks are NOT recyclable. Click here for a plastic bag alternative.
– Make sure you bring bags for trash. Avoid litter by thinking ahead and having a trash bag on hand. For recyclables, bring a paper bag for easy transport. Remember, do NOT place recyclables in trash bags!!
