Unrecyclable Papers

Let’s talk about unrecyclable papers. The WWRA recycles many paper products, including mail, magazines, books, boxes, and cardboard. Please break down any boxes before recycling. There are some paper products that the WWRA cannot recycle. Let’s learn more about common paper contaminants.
1) Paper towels. Paper towel, both used and unused, is unrecyclable. Learn about zero waste paper towel swaps by clicking this link.
2) Tissues. Similar to paper towel, used and unused tissues are not recyclable at the WWRA. Please dispose of them in the trash and recycle the cardboard tissue box.
3) Napkins. Used or unused napkins are unrecyclable. Instead, use reusable napkins or towels
4) Receipt paper. Receipts are often made with thermal paper, coated in a chemical that cannot be separated during the recycling process. Receipts of this type are not recyclable at the WWRA.
5) Microwavable frozen food boxes. Microwavable food boxes are lined with microwave safe metal or plastic and cannot be recycled. Check the inside of food boxes for plastic or metal coating before recycling.
