What Happens when you Recycle Unrecyclable Tanglers?
From inside the WWRA: This is what happens when thin plastic tanglers are incorrectly recycled in our bins.
Tanglers are nonrecyclable items, including hoses, plastic bags, rope, string, chains, and Christmas lights, that become tangled in our recycling machines. When they are sent through the sorting line, they wrap around our cardboard and plastic sorters. Once jammed, the line must be shut down so that tanglers can be removed. This can be hazardous, as these sorters use sharp metal teeth to separate smaller items from larger ones.
When you recycle a bag, or bag your recyclables, it leads to costly repairs and wasted time. Please be sure to NEVER recycle thin plastics so our lines can keep operating!
