Those residents that are concerned about the environment have WesternWashtenaw Recycling Authority to thank for collecting plastics, paper, glass and cans that would ordinarily be disposwed at the land fill.
The WesternWashtenaw Recycling Authority (WWRA) is a group of eight local communities that work cooperatively to implement residential recycling programs; the townships of Dexter, Sylvan, Lyndon, Bridgewater, Manchester and Lima, and the village of Manchester as well as the city of Chelsea. The WWRA started in 1991 with the help of a state grant from the Protecting Michigan’s Future. This grant helped to finance the construction of the facility located 8025 Werkner Road. This 8,700 square foot faciltiy allows for the sorting and processing of paper, plastics, metals and other recyclable materials, which are then shipped to a recycling market.
The drop-off recycling centers are large green bins –where you sort your recyclables.
There are 10 drop-off recyling centers for your convenience located at:
- At entrance to WWRA - 8025 Werkner Road
- Polly’s Country Market - North Main Street Chelsea (formerly Farmer Jack’s)
- Former Polly's location - Old US 12 and Main Street
- Dexter Town Hall - 6880 Dexter-Pinckney Road at
- Jim’s Scrap Metal - off Old US-12 at 480 Pierce Rd.
- Vogel’s Party Store - 20490 M-52, north of city of Chelsea
- Clark Station - Fletcher Rd. and I-94
- Manchester Market - West Main Street
- Bridgewater General Store - Austin Road at Bridgewater
- Lima - Center Road at 11795 Dexter Chelsea Road
For public convenience the facility located at 8025 Werkner Road accepts used motor, hydraulic, transmission, gear lube, and fuel oils can be dropped off 24/7 in the drop off station, recycling bins are also at this site.
